You know the feeling when you look at your monthly health statement, and cringe when the rates go up every year. You call your agent and ask him/her to shop around for better coverage at lower rates. They call several days later and tell you that they cannot find a better rate and plan than what you have now.

You question them several times and they again tell you that there’s no better rates out there than what you have. You have worked with with this agent for a lot of years and you trust their judgment.

That scenario is what I came across several weeks ago with one business in Winston Salem,NC. The owner of the business was actually looking for individual insurance for him and his employees. I obtain Winston Salem health insurance leads form and online vendor and came in contact with this individual via e-mail and then phone.

He currently had group coverage with the same insurer for ten years, and he was told by his rep that he cannot get better coverage and rates. He believed him and was desperate to find something maybe on an individual bases for him and his staff members that would be more cost effective.

They had various medical conditions after talking with him, and I explained that individual coverage was out of the question. I told him group coverage was an option but he stated that they have already looked into getting lower rates but their broker told them it was not possible.

I asked him how long they had been with their current carrier and what there monthly rates were. When he told me rates and that they had only four families on the plan, I knew something was not right.

After getting all my ducks lined up and meeting with them, I was not only able to save them $400 a month, but added two families and also was able to get them dental and vision. Will this happen this way all the time, no. But it does demonstrate that you cannot always trust your agent and getting several proposals from other agents is wise and will save you thousands of dollars.

Having a that cares about you and wants the best for you is extremely critical in this age of rising health expenses.

From recruitment and employee affairs to the areas surrounding compensation and benefits to training and information systems, they tend to lead quite occupied careers.

In bigger organizations, it is not uncommon for HR staff to work on any of these functions, further divided. For instance, the compensation and benefits staff may include experts dedicated to such fields as payroll, health insurance, and 401(k) plans.

In smaller businesses, the HR manager may also handle almost all company-based HR needs. However, one thing is for certain; nearly every company has an individual on board to take care of its HR requirements.

The following will hopefully provide you with a good background on what the typical HR manager can expect in today’s workplace, as well as offer some quick resources for you to use.

What does an HR Manager do these days? In a small business, a human resources manager may handle all aspects of human resources efforts, requiring a wide array of understanding. The tasks of human resources managers can vary broadly, depending on an employer’s needs.

In a larger company, the head human resources executive frequently develops and coordinates workforce programs and policies.

These policies are usually administered by a director or manager of human resources and, in some cases, a director of industrial relations.

To enhance spirits and productivity and to limit job turnover, they also help their companies use employee skills effectively, provide training opportunities to enhance those skills, and try to continually boost employee satisfaction with their jobs and working conditions.

Although some management jobs in the human resources arena call for limited contact with people outside the office, dealing with people is a fundamental part of the profession.

How do HR professionals get trained about Health Insurance?

Familiarity with health benefits is a high priority for benefits managers, as more firms struggle to deal with the increasing cost of health care for employees and retirees.

In addition to health insurance and pension coverage, some companies offer employees life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, disability insurance, and other, new benefits designed to meet the needs of an ever-changing workforce.

These new benefits include such benefits as parental leave, child and elder care, long-term nursing home care insurance, employee assistance and wellness programs, and flexible benefits plans. Therefore, managers must keep on top of changing Federal and State regulations and legislation that can affect employees.

Training specialists are often in charge of planning, organizing, and directing a wide range of activities and can provide necessary training for health insurance, as well. These trainers respond to corporate and worker services requests about health insurance and commonly consult with onsite supervisors.

Buying Health Insurance – A How To

In a departure from prepackaged HMO or PPO plans, some larger companies are offering employees a chance to customize their health benefits as they would auto- or homeowners-insurance policies, going through a detailed decision process and becoming increasingly more involved in the particulars.

Employees with customized benefits can choose among as many as five deductibles, five co-insurance levels, broad or narrow doctor and hospital networks and several prescription-drug options. Logically, each choice ultimately affects an employee’s monthly payroll benefits deduction.

This being said, all of the choices mean that one plan can have as many as a hundred different variations, though employers typically limit the options to around 40, states Tom Beauregard, a consultant at Hewitt Associates, a human-resources consulting firm that has about 20 clients among Fortune 1000 companies that are offering specialized benefits.

Customized plans are being developed as health-care costs continue to rise and more businesses move more of the financial load to their employees by raising premium contributions, co-payments and out-of-pocket limits.

The idea behind this is to make the employee’s heavier expense for coverage more palatable by transferring over more decision-making power. For example, choosing higher deductibles or co-payments would translate into a lower monthly premium.

Administering Health Insurance. How do HR Professionals do it?

This depends on the size and type of organization. When a few staff members manage many tasks, it’s possible that duties aren’t as well managed as others. And, in smaller organizations, the many different tasks involved in human resources can overshadow duties closely aligned with an organization’s mission at hand.

Therefore, it’s not surprising that some organizations look externally to hire professional employment organizations, or PEOs, which handle human resources responsibilities for companies employing as few as five and as many as two hundred.

PEOs, a new and fast-growing industry, perform tasks that commonly fall under accounting and human resources, freeing up time for others to focus solely on administering healthcare benefits.

How Many Types of Insurance are Out There?

In addition to health insurance and pension coverage, some HR professionals sometimes have to deal with life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, as well as disability insurance. There are also relatively new benefits with which they must be familiar, in order to meet the needs of a shifting workforce.

These include parental leave, child and elderly care, long-term nursing home care insurance, employee assistance and wellness programs, along with those plans dealing with flexible benefits.

Brokers and Where to Find Them. A local search will yield many results through the online channels and search engines. However, while almost all brokers are on the level, some may not present policies as evenly as others.

Sometimes, they may offer a computerized search that professes to compare all policies out there and available, but actually is slanted towards the broker’s pet policies. Keep this in mind and remember to ask for references.

Choosing Between a Specialty Insurance Broker and a One-Stop Shop. While larger businesses can choose to employ a big accounting firm to shop health plans for a fee, smaller businesses are brought, largely, to the plans through brokers paid by commission.

Most companies navigating managed care plans have neither the money nor the time to devote to careful plan evaluation. Brokers act effectively as outside benefits managers, performing rate comparisons and defining the quality of plans available. This action usually costs some cash up front, but often saves the company in the end.

One single best investment you can give to yourself is personal insurance. May it be health insurance, travel insurance or life insurance, it will still give you enough leverage to confidently do your task everyday anywhere without worrying so much that in any moment, an accident might occur.
However, these types of insurance have limited coverage that is not applicable on a particular situation. The situation I am talking about here is when you decide to live in another country. Sure, you have life insurance or health insurance. But these are only applicable within the boundaries of the United States. So if anything happens to you outside the country, these insurances cannot help you in any way. Same thing goes with travel insurances. Although they can be applicable outside of the country, the claim is only limited up to a certain extent such as medical evacuation, trip cancellation, and trip delays.
The bottom line is, when you travel and decided to live outside the United States, these insurance policies you have invested in your life is no longer useful. Thus, you need a particular policy that would be about to give you the coverage you need for this particular situation. You need an international health insurance.
In some way, international health insurance is just the same with other insurance policies available for you. But why get international health insurance?
For those who have no desire or could not afford to travel internationally, there is no need to purchase international health insurance. But for those who are considering going abroad and staying there, this would come in handy.
Of course there are prices to pay. While personal health insurance (valid locally) can cost you wealth, international health insurance costs even higher. But, the amount you pay is nothing compared to the benefits it will provide.
In most cases, basic international health insurance can give you coverage on things such as hospital accommodation, local ambulances, in-patient or in-hospital care, anesthetists’, physicians’, and surgeons’ charges. Some provide you with radiotherapy, oncology, pathology, and radiology coverage.
For wider coverage, a more upgraded international health insurance can answer primary care and primary consultations for outpatient visits. Therapies such as homeopathy, physiotherapy, acupuncture, osteopathy, and primary care and primary consultations including prescribed medicines are covered. For added options, emergency dentistry and at-home nursing care are available at your desire. Of course, the wider the coverage you ask, the more expensive it would be. Usually, the international health insurance with this broad coverage can cost twice as much as the basic.
The coverage does not end here.
You can get more with higher premiums. If you opt for this, you can add options such as organ transplants, psychiatry, childbirth, rehabilitation, general practitioners consultations, home delivery, and other specializations such as eye, ear, nose, and troth consultations. Other coverage can include visit to specialists such as chiropractors, psychotherapists, dietitians, and osteopaths. Scans, x-rays, lab works, and others can also be included in your coverage along with prescribed medicines.
The bottom line for international health insurance is: if you need any medical attention whether here or abroad, you can always tap your insurance policy. After all, accidents strike at any given time, regardless of your location and situation you are into.

This modern world we live in is best described as a world of uncertainty. You never know if this is the day when you’ll total your car, or take a dive down the stairs and fracture a leg, or worse. It’s a real smart idea to be prepared for such certainties. Although we don’t think these will happen to us on a regular basis, it’s wise to have a back-up plan just in case the worst does happen. Definitely, we should all have some form of health insurance. The key of course, is finding that affordable health insurance that will give you the peace of mind you need, while not depleting your bank account to much.
When we think of health insurance, many of us don’t believe we’ll ever need it. We insure ourselves for a variety of reasons; because we have a family, you never know when a child will get sick. We usually hope we never are faced with a stay in the hospital
However, it can happen, and when it does, it will likely come out of nowhere. This is where affordable health insurance is so helpful. We absolutely need that security when the occasion arises.
Do you have any idea what three days in the hospital will cost you?
Most people are somewhat clueless about such costs, but it can really set you back. Especially when we’re young, we rarely take the time to find affordable health insurance. I look back when I was in university, and I could not have cared less that had the least expensive rates. Such security was not in my thinking, I wasn’t interested in health insurance at all. Why should I be? I was only 20 years old, footloose & fancy free. This is a common error made by way to many of us.
However, the cold, hard truth is that it will most likely happen to you, and you’d better be prepared with some kind of health insurance.
Take a true life story; a close friend of mine in college was abruptly hospitalized. She didn’t know what was wrong with her, but she was certainly ill, & it happened fast! After the doctor examined her, she was diagnosed with meningitis. Yikes! Well, she didn’t have health insurance, & sadly this ended up costing her over ten thousand dollars by the time she was released.
No matter if you’re young or old; it is always a smart idea to check into health insurance. The best part is, you can locate an affordable health insurance plan right from your home, that’ right, online. There are dozens of sites that can assist you in your search.
Believe me. There is an affordable health insurance plan that’s just right for you. Don’t worry about having to spend a small fortune. If you’re already healthy, the chances are that your payments will be quite inexpensive. One thing for absolute sure, if you suddenly need health insurance, you’ll be thanking God that you were prudent enough to have invested in a plan. Initiate your search for an affordable health insurance plan today.
It’s never too early, & you don’t want to be too late.

There are lots of different kinds of health insurance. Plan that cover medical services and prescription medicines, plans that cover dental expenses, disability insurance that replaces income lost due to extended illness or injury, long-term care, and so on. In the United States, people typically refer to the plans that cover medical expenses as “health insurance”, and these plans are usually bought by employers and offered to employees as part of their compensation, or “benefits”.
Health insurance plans are usually sold once, then renewed on an annual basis. So when a consumer buys health insurance (either directly or through an employer), the insurer agrees to pay for health expenses as long as the premiums are paid on time and the account is in good standing.
Health insurance plans come in two flavors: “Fee-for-Service” or “Managed Care”. Both types of insurance cover major medical, surgical and hospital expenses, and are often referred to as “major medical plans”. Fee-for-service plans pay the medical service provider a fee for each service provided to a patient, and that patient can usually go see whatever health care provider they wish. Managed care plans, on the other hand, pre-pay contracted providers for each member’s coverage in advance. Members are offered a financial incentive to use providers who belong to the plan.
Here are a few common terms that you’ll probably run into:
Deductible: This is the amount you must pay out-of-pocket before the insurer will pay anything. Deductibles can vary widely, ranging from $0 to a few thousand dollars.
Co-insurance amount: This is the percentage of your medical expenses you must pay after you reach your deductible. This will typically range from 10-30%.
Maximum out-of-pocket amount: This is maximum amount you are required to pay in a given year, after which the insurer will pay 100% of the cost of covered medical expenses.
Covered benefits: Types of medical services the insurer will pay for.
Exclusions: Types of medical services the insurer will not pay for.
Its true: there’s a lot of jargon, and plans are difficult to evaluate and compare. But it’s important, and worth your time. Carefully review plan descriptions, and take your time to understand the coverage of any plan you’re currently under – or considering purchasing.

Many children, families and adults qualify for free- or low-cost health insurance, and they don’t even know it! Your ability to get these state- and federally-sponsored medical programs is usually based on the size of your family and your income.
These programs vary state-by-state, so it’s important to check with your local government offices. However, many of the plans share similar qualifiers. Some groups of people that commonly qualify for low- or no-cost health coverage include:
1. Children and young adults under 19 years of age. Youth programs are common throughout the United States, and often include dental, vision and mental health or substance abuse counseling in addition to basic medical coverage.
2. Pregnant women. Available through Medicaid – and often through state departments of health – you can qualify depending on your income and family size.
3. Seniors 65 years of age and over. People in this category are usually covered by Medicare, a health insurance program of the federal government.
4. Disabled People. If you’re permanently disabled, there’s a good chance you can qualify for Medicare.
5. Immigrants Needing Emergency Care. If you have a medical emergency, you might be eligible for a state-funded Alien Emergency Medical Program (AEM) which can pay for your emergency care. To be eligible for most states’ AEMs, you must be low income, have an emergency medical condition, and be: under 18, or have dependent children, or be older than 64, or disabled, or pregnant.
In addition, many states and sometimes the federal government will cover your costs for specific medical procedures and/or services. These programs are often partnerships between state health departments and national organizations like the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. These services might include things like:
1. Mammograms
2. Pap Smears
3. End-Stage Renal Disease
4. Birth Control
As we’ve said before, programs like these vary state-by-state, so it’s important to check with your state or local health department.

Health insurance costs are rising all the time. Many people feel they cannot afford health insurance. Others feel that they don’t need it because they are healthy and have never had any major medical problems. This is definitely faulty thinking on their part. As a matter of fact, you do need health insurance, and there are a lot of ways to get affordable health insurance for yourself or your family. Health insurance is protection against the possible health problems that could happen in the future, and you have absolutely no way of knowing what those might be.
For people who are low income, every state has a Medicaid program that they could possible qualify for. The requirements vary form state to state, but all it takes is a trip to your local Division of Family Services office to get an application. You might be surprised at the number of people who would actually qualify for this service that don’t think that they would. You will need to fill out the application and provide some documentation about your finances. This program can cover the health insurance needs of the entire family, including dental work, eye care, doctor visits, emergency care, prescriptions and more. For people with children who don’t get insurance through their work, this is a very good option to check out. It is free and a fairly painless process, and if you qualify, it could make you like a lot easier.
Another option for cheap health insurance is to look on the Internet. There are a ton of companies that offer all types of health insurance plans, and it is very possible that you could find one that is perfect for your family and fits your pocketbook. The costs vary, so do plenty of research before choosing one or another. It is a smart idea to find out how long the company has been in business, and what kind of reputation they have. Ask for a quote from several sources, and see what kind of a deal they can get for you. Make sure they are also licensed in your state, because it does no good to get insurance if they can’t operate in your state.
Still other options include your local insurance agencies. Ask around to find out about the different agents and their policies. Many agents will work very hard to get you an affordable health insurance plan for your family at a cost you can live with. Even if you can’t get every type of coverage you want, some is better than none.
Follow up with advertisements for prescription card plans and alternative health care plans. While some of them won’t be suited to your needs, there may be one that is perfect for you. An affordable health care insurance plan can be found, but you might have to do some searching.

It can literally be one of the scariest places to find yourself – without health insurance coverage. When a simple trip to the emergency room can lead to thousands of dollars in charges, the last thing you need is to not have health insurance. But what options do you have? Graduating from college can be a true rite of passage into adulthood, because this is the time when most health insurance plans drop you from your parents’ plan. Even landing a job right after graduation can still mean that you will have to go through a grace period before the company’s health insurance kicks in. And if you have left a job for greener pastures, well…don’t get sick or injured!
But do I even have options?
Well you probably do have options for health insurance coverage, but they may not be ideal. If you have quit your job, then you will have the option of extending your health insurance benefits for up to 18 months – thanks to COBRA. The only catch is that you will have to pay for those benefits out of your own pocket. Not exactly an easy thing to do without that paycheck rolling in every week.
Is that it? Is that my only hope?
Before you panic, just relax. The solution is short-term health insurance. As the name implies, this solution offers you health insurance options for a limited period of time. Most short-term health insurance benefits are available for 30 to 180 days. Depending on where you live, you may be able to obtain these benefits for up to a year.
And short term health insurance is the same as what I had at work?
Well, if you mean that you have coverage in the event of a hospital visit or sudden illness, then yes. You also can pick your own doctors and hospitals, which is actually an advantage over some health insurance plans offered by employers. But there are definitely coverage limitations on short-term health insurance plans.
So what am I not covered for?
That really is the million dollar question, isn’t it? Well, routine medical exams are not covered by a short term health insurance policy. Any kind of preventative care is also out the window with this type of coverage. Plus, you can forget about dental and optical coverage with short-term health insurance. For obvious reasons, this sort of health insurance also does not cover medical costs relating to a pregnancy nor, anything having to do with the childbirth itself.
No offense, by why should I bother with short term health insurance?
Because a simple trip to the emergency room can cost thousands of dollars, and any emergency procedure and hospital stay can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Hey, short- term health insurance is not supposed to be the long-term solution. It is just a way to make sure you are covered while you are not on any employer’s health insurance plan. And it can help you avoid going into serious debt, should something happen to you when you are not otherwise covered on a health insurance plan. For that reason alone, it is definitely worth the expense.

Most people get a series of health insurance quotes when shopping around. Everyone requires health insurance of some sorts, whether you are single, married have kids or are a student – and quotes help narrow down your options. However, the process can be quite a tedious one! Not only will this decision affect your levels of medical care, it will also affect your pocketbook. This article will help you manage the choices available to you when shopping for a health insurance quote, so that your medical requirements and budget are both met satisfactorily.
Most of the health insurance quotes that you’ll receive will be grouped into one of three categories:
Health Insurance Quotes: Indemnity of Fee-For-Service Plans
The plans that our parents used to use were probably indemnity plans; these health insurance quotes allow you to visit any doctor of your choosing. Highly desirable by many people, these types of health insurance quote are in great demand, however, they are becoming harder and harder to come by, and seem to be creeping up in price. But many consumers are willing to pay this price, because of the convenience and flexibility these plans offer.
Health Insurance Quotes: Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs)
HMOs are becoming more and more common lately; most health insurance quotes are for this type of plan nowadays. HMOs are, essentially, a group of health service providers who bundle their services together in a fixed price option. If your doctor doesn’t refer you to certain care, then you won’t be eligible to receive payment for it under your health insurance quote. These types of plans are good for people who know they won’t need any specialized services, and if your budget is a factor, this is one of the lower, and more predictable options.
Health Insurance Quotes: Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs)
PPOs are a health insurance quote that combines aspects the two aforementioned plans. PPOs offer the same type of managed group services as HMOs, but also allow users to go outside of their network without a referral. It only makes sense, though, that using this option will cost you more out-of-pocket expenses, but it is covered partially. PPOs are a good middle ground health insurance quote option; you get the flexibility of using your group of health care providers or ones outside of the network, and the costs for this type of plan are in the middle range of the three (although costs can be a bit less predictable).
Health Insurance Quotes: Where to Go?
Many consumers get their health insurance quotes from their workplace, which may or may not be partially paid for through the company. If your company doesn’t offer this benefit, perhaps talk to professional organizations, unions, banks, club or other group that you belong to – they may have an option that is attractive to you. If you cannot find group coverage this way, you can always opt for individual coverage – but this is by far the most expensive health insurance quote option out there. Talking to an insurance agent who can assist you with the quote process is a good idea, if this is your only avenue.
